From the Shop to the SummiT

Hands-on work, practical problem-solving, and a passion for learning have been with me every step of the way.

I was born and raised in Chittenden County by two hardworking Vermonters. Growing up in a competitive family meant an early relationship with team sports. I found my stride on the high school football and lacrosse teams, where I developed leadership skills alongside a love for sports with my teammates.

At home, I followed my dad around, helping him with whatever home improvement project was underway — a list that never seemed to end. During the school day, I gravitated toward the physics room and machine shop, where I leaned into my desire to build. There, I learned the basics of CAD, welding, CNC operation, milling, and woodworking, all in service of my own never-ending list of projects.

I went on to earn a BS in Mechanical Engineering, with a minor in Pure Mathematics, from the University of Vermont. I relied on my high school metal and woodworking experience to guide me through the technical coursework at UVM. To balance the theoretical studies, I joined the school's all-electric Formula-style racing team, the Alternative Energy Racing Organization (AERO). It was there I studied under experienced engineers who inspired my progression to become Club President and Lead Mechanical Engineer in my senior year — a role I achieved collaboratively during the height of the pandemic, while building both a race car and a high-performing team of diverse individuals.

At UVM, I also decided to stretch my comfort zone: I joined the club gymnastics team and a violin program. In these groups, I formed friendships that have lasted long after graduation.

Always loving the outdoors — and doing anything it took to get out on skis — my interests grew even more toward the end of college and into professional life. Now I spend most of my free time mountain biking, skiing, climbing, hiking, and camping — always making sure to mix in my love for photography and the occasional violin practice session.
