I am driven by the intersection of design, physics, and engineering to solve problems. I want to continuously improve myself as an engineer and person while striving for excellence in the teams I am a part of.
Shearing expanded steel mesh is a time consuming bottle neck that is hard on the worker. I was tasked with solving these problems, through iterative design and testing the solution I designed is a uncoiler run by a larger stepper motor off of a raspberry pi. This machine takes input from either pre created excel list or on the fly user input to cut any length of mesh required for any quantity.
A challenging aspect of this project was creating a way for the mesh to line up on the knuckle while shearing, this is critical to ensure no sharp burs are left that can cause injury to the worker or customer.
